7 Steps to Starting any Remodel or Home Improvement Project
Finally taking on that kitchen remodel, bathroom remodel, or home improvement project you have been dreading for weeks or even months?!
Well, we here at S&C Construction feel that it doesn't have to be a stressful process, but instead, a pleasant experience where you get to collaborate and let your creative side come out and flourish.
So we are going to explain the basic steps of any kitchen remodel, bathroom remodel, or home improvement project the requires contacting a general contractor near you.
Determine if you need General Contractor, Kitchen Remodeler, Bathroom Remodeler, Roofer, Flooring Contractor, or other types of Contractor for your project.
Find the General Contractor, Kitchen Remodeler, Bathroom Remodeler, Roofer, or Painter near you.
This is actually fairly simple and is contacting each Contractor or team member one by one and vetting.
You should do this first because then you won't waste your time with contractors who won't show up or who may not be a good fit. If you want to know what questions to ask used contractor or team member go ahead and click here for more information.
Once you are satisfied with 4 Contractors schedule estimates with each Contractor near you.
Always do at least 4 invites to your project because most likely one of the contractors will get held up on something and not be able to come to the scheduled time. So this way you will still have 3 other contractors estimate to choose from.
Now prepapre your scope of work for the estimate day. Make sure it is exactly the same for each Contractor. Within the scope of work it bold put labor and materials must be included in bid.
Check back later to see another blog.post about why you want your Contractor to supply their own materials.
Make sure the estimates are as similar as possible. If you did step 4 correctly then this should be no problem.
We want to compare apples to apples on pricing and what the contractor can or is willing to do on your project.
Now ask the final questions on the estimates provided if they are not clear and ask if you sign with then if the contract will reflect that before it is sent to you.
Get a start date as well as a completion date. Sometimes a contractor can give you an exact start date. While others who are busier give you a date range. This is because the crew may be on a project before yours and if a delay happens then they don't have to push your date back since there is an estimated start date.
The completion date should be a set date or time, such as 2 weeks from the start of the project they will be done with your kitchen remodel or bathroom remodel.
Start your project! Now all the hard work pays off and it is time to watch your creation come to life. So Kick Back and enjoy it!
